Hip Replacement

Hip replacement

Hip replacement, also known as hip arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure in which a damaged or worn-out hip joint is replaced with an artificial joint or prosthesis. This procedure is typically recommended for individuals who suffer from severe hip pain and functional limitations due to conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, avascular necrosis, or traumatic injury

Types of Hip Replacement
  1. Total Hip Replacement: The entire hip joint, including the femoral head (the ball) and the acetabulum (the socket), is replaced with artificial components.
  2. Partial Hip Replacement: Only the femoral head is replaced. This is often performed in cases of hip fractures.
  3. Hip Resurfacing: The femoral head is reshaped and capped with a smooth metal covering, and a metal cup is placed in the acetabulum. This is less common and typically used for younger, more active patients.
